I was trying for Whitewater Baldy but only did 3 miles before turning back. I encountered about a 100 blowdowns. Negotiating each one was tiring. Hopefully, the Forest Service starts maintaining this trail again, once most of the snags fall.

We did the first segment of the trail to the first saddle. Great views, good conditions. There’s a lot of recent horse traffic so there were times to watch where we stepped but otherwise it was fine. Definitely a return trip in order to finish the entire trail!

Blowdowns were mostly cleared. Well maintained and easy to follow for trail in the Gila. Most of the trail is through burned forest from the Whitewater Baldy fire. The new growth aspen forest obscures the view in some places. Most of the side trails appeared unmaintained or nonexistent

Tough trail with lots of downed timber. About 7 miles through old burn, very hot and exposed in the summer.
