This trail was amazing! It was actually very easy to follow as long as you look at the alltrails map. Beautiful views at the top, and you only climb for the first half. It was great to see the desert and the forest from one trail. I don’t know why others have rated this trail low - it’s a great option for most activity levels, and it’s free! ;)

All signs are rotted, fallen or missing. Felt like we got lost or on wrong path so we set off in the direction of our car then randomly hit the trail we were originally supposed to be on... cute trail with some nice views but ended being almost 8 miles and put me in a bad mood feeling off track.

Trailhead for counter-clockwise travel around this loop trail is along Water Canyon Rd after you cross the creek bed, and clearly marked. Trail is well marked by blazes and cairns and in good shape. Signs are few and it could use a few more. No water anywhere in September. It is easy to get on the optional loop if you aren’t paying attention. If you see one “TR13” sign followed by two more close together, you are on the optional loop. Go back and look for 2 cairns and a trail going downhill. The optional loop does offer some spectacular views of the plains below but so does the main loop, late. Don’t recommend a clockwise travel as you essentially climb a cliff near the start, rocky and very steep – not “moderate” by any means. This trailhead is unmarked, before the other one, left side of the road just after you cross a yellow cattle guard near a car camping area. Recommend looking at the Forest Service maps. https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/cibola/recarea/?recid=64634
