The main trail is under 3 miles (loop) but there are many other trails that go along the edge of the canyon or into the canyon. Much of the trail is among the Pinon and Juniper forest but there are other types of vegetation, especially in the canyons. There are nice views of the Sandias and surrounding area and there are some areas of nice volcanic features like a small cave and some nice canyon features.
Lovely views and peaceful setting... with an easy walk for both us and our small dog. The views of the mountains and the canyons are breathtaking in spots and the trail is varied enough to make the walk interesting without being strenuous.
It is a nice walk. A nice place to take the kids and grandparents for a day trip.
Two words: beauty and quiet. I loved this trail because the trail has canyons and the area is beautiful. The first part of the trail is located on top of a mesa. You can break off the main loop trail and drop down into the canyons. The trail winds around the bottom of the canyon and then out to an arroyo. The trail is easy and there is a lot of solitude. The trail is also good for mounitan biking and horseback riding. This is a great winter hike
Nice but not worth the drive. Saw a rattlesnake right off of trail that spooked our dog. Heard gunshots that spooked us esp. because there was no one else around.

Low traffic, great scenery, easy trek......even better when you live nearby.
Loved this trail! Had beautiful sights and was a fairly easy hike! Took our dogs and they had a blast!
Nice trip with low traffic and great views. The main loop is an easy 3 but there are several other trails that will give you a good workout and add miles to your hike. Nice views of the Sandias and surrounding area
