Was really excited to try this one out but was very disappointed. It looked like there had been a fire (possibly a controlled burning) and the trail was very hard to follow, had to search for the trail ahead multiple times, many trees to step over, lots of overgrowth in the path, and very steep half of the time. Definitely needs lots of maintenance or at least a warning at the beginning of the trial.

It's all about the view at the top. Which is an incredible 360 view. The trail is actually a service road for the ski slopes. Which means steady gradient but not particularly charming in and of themselves. But man... that view at the top. (Next time I'm going to try the lookout mountain loop trail) - Also... this trail is improperly named. The summit you reach is Lookout mountain and not Sierra Blanca. From the top you have an incredible view of Sierra Blanca though.

Really quite the beautiful view at the top of Lookout Mountain. The trailhead is not clearly marked which was confusing at first, but it's one of the dirt roads you see that go behind the buildings of Ski Apache it appears to be one of the service roads. I found it helpful to the GPS in this app to make sure I was on the right path at the beginning of the trip. It is a tough climb to reach the top but you will not regret it once you get there. Our hike ended up being 6 miles out and back instead of the 5.4 shown here on All Trails.
