Lady Slipper Trail is a 2.3 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Angel Fire, New Mexico that features a great forest setting and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and running. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
No parking near the trail so have to walk about half mile to the trailhead if you park at the lake. Otherwise trail is pretty easy and well-marked. Very pretty when the aspen trees change colors!
Lovely fall foliage & moderate uphill climbs. We split off & went up towards FM 76. Was beautiful!
Great everyday trail if you enjoy a good walk. Not much as for views, but you’re in the forest and surrounded by nature. We’ve seen deer, chipmunks, squirrels, Stellar Jay’s, Woodpeckers and garden snakes. Close to 2.5 miles with a steady to steep incline going up the lower loop to get your heart pumping, but the reminder of the trail is fairly even. Heavily wooded about 1/4 mile in providing lots of shade. A simple trail. Has something for everyone!
Very nice easy hike in the trees. We parked by the damn and walked to the trailhead. No real parking at trailhead.
great trail to walk the dogs! good sightings of mule deer and elk as well :)
One of the cleanest trails, well marked and taken care of easy for kids. Would make great trail to run
Nice little pretty well-travelled trail with only a few minor Ups and Downs. We were able to get several kids age 3-5 around the loop without too much trouble. Pretty forest setting, with a little bit of a view briefly into the valley to the south, we stopped to snack and enjoy it with the kids. A good warm-up trail to get everyone used to the altitude. We also parked down at the Lake’s main parking lot and walked along the lake trail to extend our walk a bit, though there is parking available at the trailhead.
Today was my second time hiking this trail. It’s in good condition with the exception of a few downed trees. It’s easy to go around them. I like to park at Monte Verde Lake and walk along the trail that runs beside it to lengthen my round trip by a about mile. The trail is rated Easy, but there are a couple of short ascents along the way.
