if going from the tram to la luz trail head, it was not well marked and the trail is very easy to lose and get of course from. make sure to have the map downloaded before. also it said 2.5 at tram start.. actually 4.5

One of my favorite Sandia hikes! Super beautiful & trail is well marked. Views are awesome too! It’s not very shaded so bring water if you’re going midday. Bathrooms at the trailhead - $3 to hike and park. Totally worth the hike- will bring all of our guests here!

I loved the hike. I get vertigo very easy, so it was stressful but doable. We hiked about 2.5 miles up with about 1000 ft elevation gain and decided to turn back. So, 5 miles overall hike.

Super easy trail! Very beautiful but very hot during the summer, recommend lots of water. Little rocky, and slightly steep in a few areas, but very easy all around.

Hiked on memorial day. Well maintained trail. Lots of people. We probably passed about 10 groups going up. We got to the trailhead around 10:30 am. The parking lot was full, but we were able to park on the side of the road down a ways. Good views once you get to the end of the trail. Some areas are a bit narrow, with steep sides that could lead to injury or death. Trail is probably 40-50% small rocks which makes coming down slippery if you don't have good shoes with lots of tread. Brought my adventurous 5 year old. Went pretty good, though she slipped and fell a number of times coming down due to not great shoes and lots of small rocks that make it slippery. Had a great time though. Really pretty right at the end of the trail before you turn around. Was fairly breezy, but was nice to help cool down.

Hiked on 5/22. Hiked from La Luz trailhead to the Crest House (trail 84). Boulder field bit tricky above 9k but not bad. Did encounter snow from 9500' on up that made it dicey. Folks, can't emphasize enough that the mileage posted is INCORRECT on this site. Total one-way from La Luz TH to the Crest (10,680') is 7.45 miles making it a 14.9 mile round-trip hike. Great hike, but be aware, that it is longer than what you see on this site. Enjoy.
