Worth the hike! First, the hiking trail to goose lake is trail 65, the driving and ATV trail is trail 66. Second, the hike to goose lake is 7 mile making the total out and back actually 14 miles NOT 10, so bring water and snacks. Definitely a moderate uphill hike. The lake itself is gorgeous and there are definitely places to tent camp. Plenty of refill areas for water along the way as well. There is a section of downed trees, but if you push straight through in the direction of where the trail stops you will be able to clearly see the pick up on the other side. ~300 ft. The whole trail to goose lake is uphill so as long as you go uphill you cant miss it.

Great trail. There is a spot where there are lots of downed trees.... follow the creek at this point because the trail gets lost due to the downed trees. Use this app as your GPS to locate the trail and lake. Lake is beautiful and worth the hike.

A couple of things to note about this trail. First, this is not the Jeep trail. The Jeep trail is closer to town. Second, I was unable to find the lake. Around mile 5 I ran into a ton of down trees and lost the trail. There are down trees everywhere, making it very difficult. It is a Beautiful trail trail though. We saw a beautiful black bear by the primitive campsite around mile 3. It’s around 100 flights at mile 5 where I lost the trail.
I am rating this a 3 Star due to losing the trail. If the trees are cleared and a clear path is made to the lake this is definitely a 5 Star.

Great trail and beautiful views at the Lake. Did it in a lifted 4Runner. No problems at all. Very fun and rewarding trail.

The trail was great but you better be good at navigating around off the trail. Towards halfway of the trail you lost site because of fallen trees everywhere. Be sure to expect delays but the end and getting to the lake is well worth it.

Definitely one of my favorite trails in Red River! Goose Lake is beautiful and peaceful, well worth the trip! It is probably the most popular trail in the area, so expect lots of traffic. Seems like every time I visit, the restroom at the lake is closed.

Disappointing if you think you're going to actually get to the lake! I did not log in to record, but after hiking 5 hours and logging 4.9 miles, the trail abruptly ended in what looked like an apocalypse of uprooted and downed trees in a boggy swamp. We hung around for at least another 45 minutes trying to figure out where the trail resumed but to no avail. We had no choice but to go back down without seeing the magnificent views of Goose Lake.
This is also not what I would call a moderate trail except at the beginning. The length and elevation gain alone make it challenging, and there are plenty of places where tree roots, downed trees and rocks make it difficult. You also have to cross the stream several times either on logs or rocks. There are no signs along the trail to guide you, and although the trail is mostly clear, at the end there is no indicator of where to go to get to the lake.
Your best bet, if you want to see the lake, is to get there by Jeep or ATV. Otherwise hike up a couple miles to the first or second meadow, have a picnic and hike down. The maps for this trail are inaccurate . If anyone has actually hiked all the way to the top and seen the lake, I'd like to know where I missed the trail.

Love this lake. It is so beautiful and well worth the time. Bring lots of water and a snack to eat by the lake.
