It was a great trail. There was some heavy foot traffic on the trail and in some places was difficult to get by people. We went in October during the leaf change and it was gorgeous. The route on the map above is closer to 6 miles than 4.3.

This trail is 100% perfect. As a native New Mexican, I always heard it was beautiful but never made the drive out before. I really wish I had! I hiked today, 10-11-19 and the conditions were perfect, lots of beautiful fall color, rock outcroppings gorgeous vistas, blue skies and cool (not cold) weather. Hurry, before the leaves are gone!

The trail is overgrown in several sections and pretty hard to follow. We ended up off route a couple of times. The real appeal is the changing of the leaves and although it had started I think we were a couple weeks early for the real show. We did a small off trail section to climb to the top of Cerro Blanco which the trail goes right past. I would recommend hitting the top of the ridge that runs to the peak because it offers the best views of the entire trail. I would go again for the leaves but that’s the only reason.

Excellent weather and trail conditions. The maples are turning color and there are lots of them on this trail.

Excellent trail for shade! Almost completely shaded for the entire hike. Took our small dog and three kids, all had an excellent time. Saw a dear towards the top. Would hike again for sure.

Great hike through mtns. Good incline on the way up but evens out on ridge. This loop actually connects you with Cerro Blanco Trail then ends up on road for last mile or so. I can see how fall would be a pretty hike. Lots of oaks and other deciduous varieties. Drive up takes you through remnants of forest fires but it didn’t seem to reach this trail.

Good little trail for fall colors, red/oranges that aren't very common in the area. We turned right up the ABQ trail and up to the saddle, where it connects for a bigger loop.

Wonderful hike on 10-14-18, with trees wearing just amazing colors. However the trail is not really well indicated, with many people, ourself included, asking other hikers where we/they were supposed to go, and how far was the top ... Strongly recommend it in the fall anyways.

We took this trail early November after a snowfall. Although cool and windy at the top it was magnificent! My 8-year-old son did well doing the round-trip and was the perfect afternoon hike! Just gorgeous!

We hiked this on 10/10/18 and the leaves were beautiful - probably peak for the red maples. Pretty trail but signage is not very good. We ended up on Cerro Blanco but turned back once it joined up with Crest Trail. It was pretty much all uphill to that point.

Beautiful trail. Mostly uphill for the first half but worth it!

It was a beautiful hike. All the leaves had dropped but we still enjoyed it on a nice cool day. We brought our dog who loved it too. Most of the ground was hard packed dirt or leaves so his paws were thankful. The last 1/4 of the hike it the dirt road you use to drive in, so that was a little confusing at first. Next year I’ll hike this in October to get a better view of fall foliage

Definitely missed the Peak of the fall colors. Most of the leaves have already fallen, some fall colors but not much. It was still a great hike.

Gorgeous colors this weekend, but I’m sure they will disappear soon! Some of the intersections didn’t specifically say “Fourth of July” on the signs, so know the route before you go. If you have time, take the spur to the overlook and see some additional fall colors on the Crest Trail. The trail gets a little rocky in places with some incline/decline and is frequented by horses. The loop appeared to be closed by a dirt road, or we just lost the trail, but made it back to the parking lot without a problem.

beautiful trail. a few trees down across path.

Just beautiful in the fall, call the ranger station before you make the drive, they can tell you the progress of the leaves so you don't miss the window. If you go to early the leaves will still be green and go too late and they will be on the ground. Very busy trail, lots of people, kids, dogs, and horses. Best part is this is also a campground so the whole forest smells like freshly burned pine. Great hike for kids!

The road can be rough depending on the moister through the summer, best time to go is the fall and you will see Golds, purples, Reds, and more, worth the hike, but be prepared for crowds
