Faulty, Bart's and South Crest Trails Loop is a 12.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Sandia Park, New Mexico that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, and backpacking and is best used from April until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

we were able to access the trail fine. although we used another GPS app and it marks the trail at 15.1 mi.

Hiking

Access use to be via hwy 14 and forest road 299. Due to a dispute with local land owners, the gate at the beginning of 299 has been locked for a few years now (currently 2014). Barts trail must now be accessed from the upper end via Faulty or Crest Trail. The blocking of fr299 also prevents vehicle access to Cole Springs Campground.

First to Review

This trail is very similar to the others that connect the Faulty with the South Crest. It is a climb the whole way up, with close to no flat spots. Most of the hiking is done in a rocky riverbed marked by cairns. If you're aiming to get from the Faulty to the South Crest or vice-versa just use the most convenient one as none of the trails, including this one, stand out,
