Embudito Trail #192 (going clockwise) hugs the south facing unshaded rocky hillside. Gets steeper after a mile, then 2 miles (2 hours at moderate pace) from trail head you reach the high point where there is a shady spot with big boulders, overlooking a valley ahead with South Sandia Peak in full glory ahead. Ideal for a picnic, nap and loop back in the stream bed. We walked another half hour towards Oso Pass on #192 and found some of the densest forested shade in the Sandias. Magnificent! We did not take the optional loop back in the stream bed. From above there appear to be rough spots but also lots of sandy wash open trail. Many birds en route.

Moderate hike for avid hikers with beautiful views! The incline is consistent and will keep your heart rate up. I would recommend going early to beat the sun and heat. We started at 6:30am and had shade basically the entire way up. Sun hit us the last two miles going down but it wasn’t too bad. Took us 5 hours total including breaks and a small detour once we reached the end of the trail. Definitely recommend!

Definitely a difficult trail!! At some points it’s like climbing stairs. The brush is a bit overgrown at some points. We got a late start around 9:30am and sumitted at 2:30pm. It was hot all the way up, with wind relief only near the very top. Some shade relief in the middle 3 hours though. Definitely would suggest bringing 5L for each person during the summer.

Insane heat and exposure during first hour. Then dramatically and suddenly changed into shady woodsy area that wasn’t too bad. But we were so fucked by that point it was hard to enjoy. Ate lunch on some rocks. This was the snowy trail we first did a long time ago. (Not pino).

I was here around 7:40am it was perfect weather low 60s shaded area all the way up. Some areas were confusing in where to go but if you have the map you will be just fine. Coming down was the easy part. I couldn’t wait to take off my shoes. It took me a long time 4 hrs to do the full 8 miles because I was stopping to take pictures. Super happy I did it. Oh and it’s safe just have to watch out for rattlesnakes. I went on my own and I’m a women.

What a work-out! Once you get past the unshaded rocky areas, what a trail! Lots of trees to keep you cool as you get higher and a steady incline most of the way up. Bring lots of water and be prepared for the walk down where you will change temperatures quickly as you leave the trees. Highly recommend! Late April temps kept us cool for the majority of the hike.

I hiked this for the first time and loved it...the view at the top is amazing! It's relaxing, challenging, and beautiful. I recorded my entire adventure and posted it on YouTube. You can find it by searching for Nash Potatoes Outdoor Show. Enjoy!

Great trail. Did about 5 miles with my dog today. Challenging and rocky but super fun. Fairly easy to follow trail, not too many people out on a Saturday afternoon. Parking is great!

Worst trail I’ve ever done. Not maintained and super rocky scramble everywhere. Slipped many times. Don’t recommend.

Long trail, consistent linear climb, and lots and lots of insects that would not leave me alone. Only the wind could keep the bugs at bay. There's a but of shade, but not until after a significant distance. No rock climbing, but lots of rocks.
