Although I started on the forest road 160 after I drove 1.0 mile on it, I didn’t follow FR160 very long. Once FR160 Turns back west, I just headed uphill. There’s a closed track (mentioned in the description) that I followed for awhile, too. Just head for either the middle or the right half of Cerro Pedernal - no real trail up the slope. Once you get to the base of the shield cliffs, follow them left. PASS the cave, keep going left, find the dead juniper leaned against the cliff. That’s the 12-foot move you have to make (mentioned in the description). Deep breath, grab a handhold, power on up. Once you get to the top, take a few minutes to read the truly moving entries in the journals inside the lockbox. Stay still long enough for the ravens to come soaring over you.
