This is a beautiful area. FR289 - St Peter's Dome Road is worth checking out all together. I had mixed feelings about this hike. It is beautiful but also a bit disturbing to be confronted by total deforestation caused by a fire. Amazing topography, views and plant life all the same. This is also a pretty cool alternate route into Bandelier, which is about 3 or 4 miles NE of the trail-head.

Great views. Interesting features. Beautiful plant life. This trail goes through dome wilderness (which burned down a few years ago) and into bandelier national park. The last mile or so of the trail was very overgrown, we were not able to find the end, but it still was a great hike, nonetheless. I recommend a 4x4 vehicle to get to this trail (my Mazda 3 made it just fine, but it was a rough ride).
