Not nearly as bleak as its name implies! Easy hike to the edge and back is about 6.5 miles. Did this in early July so weather quickly turned from scorching hot to violent thunderstorm in a matter of minutes!

Windy hot day, and ran in between shade stops. The end is a great view and worth it!

Good for kids and old folks. Really beautiful views of Sangre de Christos and Redondo Peak. Trail ends at a canyon edge which is nice but not as spectacular as the Frijoles Canyon which is much larger. But still a really nice hike!

I can only imagine how nice a walk this would be in the early summer when the wildflowers are in bloom. It is a very easy hike with wonderful vistas in all directions. Lots of signs of animals but we didn't see any.
