Definitely use a GPS because this trail is NOT marked at all once you begin the loop part up to the summit. If you follow the blue trail signs you will NOT be on this trail at all and will have to backtrack. Before the trail loop, it is easy. But once you begin the loop to the summit, the trail is extremely narrow and rocky, not easy at all, more moderate.

First time hikers definitely need GPS. First part of trail is easy to follow then gets a little tricky and you can be off trail in a heart beat. Rocky trail, good shoes and if you have walking poles it is a solid idea. Good hike will raise you HR and the views are pretty good too!

I’ve hiked this trail three times using my GPS to follow the loop. I seem to wander off the main trail and did not understand why. Otherwise there are beautiful views, many desert plants and it’s a decent work out. Lots of rocks in some areas. I went both summer and fall and it’s lovely either time of year.

Lots of private property signs make it confusing where to hike. Other than that an ok hike on a nice day.

Very rocky terrain. But it’s a great open space hike . Some areas are private property. Look for the open shafts from former mining operations. Most have a fence around the opening

Boston Hill is just a very nice area to go for hikes. You can pick and choose from the many trails, all interconnected, depending on how much time you have and how physical you feel! And so close to Silver City, simply great!

Great trail. Lots of different trails merge off of this one so you need to keep an eye on the map.

Easy to moderate trail and it’d be great for trail running. Temp was low 50’s, sunny no wind and wound up shedding windbreaker. Great views of WNMU campus and if you go down the backside nice views of farming and ranching homes. We maintained an easy pace and took an hour and was about 2 miles. Nice hike to bring along your best friend too! Enjoy!

I don’t know why the description says it is near Pinos Altos. It is actually within the city limits of Silver City. Trailheads are off city streets. This is a lovely trail system with fabulous views. You can do a thirty minute hike or a two hour hike depending on how you loop it. Lots of mining remnants to puzzle over. You won’t get lost because it is completely surrounded by streets and roads - just get high and you can figure out where you are. This is not a great place to hike in the heat of summer because there is minimal shade but otherwise anytime will do. Have a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and water. Highly recommend!
