Getting There

Take the blue blazed McEvoy Trail from parking lot. The trail climbs to Ramapo Lake where it joins a paved park road as it skirts the lake then turns north. The trail leaves the road at a sharp bend. Stay on road for about 50 yards and take the white blazed Castle Point Trail and begin a short, steep climb. At the top are some interesting ruins and outstanding views. Continue on the trail along ridge. The trail then descends, crosses a stream and turns uphill where it joins another park road and ends at Skyline Drive. Cross Skyline and take red blazed Cannonball Trl. Then a quick right onto the yellow blazed Hoeferlin Trail. Follow trail until it reaches Skyline Dr again and catch the white blazed Todd Trail by the Camp Tamarack sign. The Todd turns west into the woods and eventually joins a gravel camp road for a short distance, then turns south and reaches another outstanding overlook. Continue on Todd, across Skyline again and back to McEvoy. Left on MacEvoy to car.

Route 287 to Skyline Drive exit. North onto Skyline Drive and parking is on left about 1/4 mile from 287.

Took way longer than the estimated time, but it was 90 degrees so very hot. Have to be careful with the markers, easy to go off trail if you come to the atv trails/roads. The ruins were gorgeous though.

Such a fun trail! Almost missed the sign to go up to the castle. We parked at the first parking lot on the left off of skyline drive. Took the trail up to the reservoir, then made a left. We made the detour to go onto cannonball trail to go over the 287 bridge (so much fun). After that, we went back on the trail going up to the castle. definitely recommend going clockwise.

Gorgeous trail, one of my favorites so far due to diverse scenery. Can see anything from still waters, to a water fall, creeks, rocky hills, large rocks, fern filled forests, very wide or very narrow paths and lots of greenery and small critters. Only downside is the sheer amount of people on the trails but they are absolutely worth the hike!

Good trail . Follow blue trail, then white trail, then redwhite trail and finally yellow trail. About 3 miles is just walking. Rest is up and down but not bad at all

Nothing extremely memorable about this hike other than the castle ruins. Easy inclines and trails are decently marked. We had a lot of fog the morning we went but the viewpoints don’t offer much of a peak regardless. Hike around the lake was peaceful but very basic trail - good hang out spot for fishing.

I walked the blue and white around the water. It was super easy here, good for light trail running. Then there are some decent elevation changes. After it veers from the water you can take a longer way back to the parking area. Parking is not easy to find here.

Nice hike. Friday of memorial day, busy but too bad. Very rocky on trail, partially on gravel road as well, so not easy on feet. However nice views, and some good climbs.

beautiful hike yesterday, will be returning tomorrow because I am a bit sore... my one complaint, STOP LITTERING!!! yesterday I saw multiple face masks and pieces of garbage on the ground, if you are a garbage individual that believes in littering then stay home and destroy your own place, dont come out here to this beautiful reservation and leave your trash behind, there are garbage cans, you have no excuse other than being a bad person!

This is a nice trail! People please take care of it! I saw garbage like face masks, pet’s waste bags and water bottles left where should be the nicest spots! Human negligence aside, the trail is a gem with great views and a mix of hard and easy parts!

Fun hike that is relatively close to nyc. We did it counterclockwise doing the “moderate” part of the hike and elevation gain first. Added benefits is you see the lake as you hike down. Few snakes by the water that surprised us. Parking was challenging and there were police there managing # of cars in lot. We got lucky and were able to get a spot quickly. Later found out there’s a second lot north of where these directions take you which is also on the trail.

Nice cool afternoon hike. Initially planned the Yellow & Cannonball Trail, but cut it short after coming across a group of bears cutting across the Cannonball Trail. Slowly backed away and stuck to the path around the lake.

Great trail, 40min from home, follow directions from all trail App, not google, parking is 0.4 miles off 287, another parking lot further up the road. Parking can get busy. Lake is beautiful and has a lot of spots with the view for picnic on the rocks. Castle hike up is worth it, loon for sign for castle view point (white trail)

Enjoyable hike with varied terrain and features — woods, rocks, gorgeous views, historical ruins, etc. Some great 360 degree views from NYC skyline to mountains in the west. Some elevation change but never too strenuous. Did it counterclockwise so enjoyed the nice flat walk around the lake toward the end.

we only did the around the lake loop as our kids were hot. If you are doing the whole hike I would head right first, do the elevation change 1st, and save the stroll around the lake for last. Beautiful views of Ramapo Lake.

First time at Ramapo Mountain and will have to come back in the Spring time to really provide an accurate review. Feb 23, 2020 it was pretty heavy with foot traffic and a few spots with trash. Hopefully the State does something to lower the amount of trash or increase Ranger presence to enforce littering laws. Overall, easy/moderate trail with gorgeous views on a brilliantly nice and warm February day.

Nice trail with some streams and small falls along the way along with a few neat scrambles. There were a few nice views along to way too. Heavily trafficked, especially for a winter hike.

Good challenging trail for a day off. Great views from the top of the castle and of the lake. Lots of rocks along trail , so be carful . They can be slippy when they are wet.

Some minor scrambles and stream crossings, but nothing too hard. I would go clockwise on the loop personally.
