Take the blue blazed McEvoy Trail from parking lot. The trail climbs to Ramapo Lake where it joins a paved park road as it skirts the lake then turns north. The trail leaves the road at a sharp bend. Stay on road for about 50 yards and take the white blazed Castle Point Trail and begin a short, steep climb. At the top are some interesting ruins and outstanding views. Continue on the trail along ridge. The trail then descends, crosses a stream and turns uphill where it joins another park road and ends at Skyline Drive. Cross Skyline and take red blazed Cannonball Trl. Then a quick right onto the yellow blazed Hoeferlin Trail. Follow trail until it reaches Skyline Dr again and catch the white blazed Todd Trail by the Camp Tamarack sign. The Todd turns west into the woods and eventually joins a gravel camp road for a short distance, then turns south and reaches another outstanding overlook. Continue on Todd, across Skyline again and back to McEvoy. Left on MacEvoy to car.

Some minor scrambles and stream crossings, but nothing too hard. I would go clockwise on the loop personally.

Good trail. Decent views. The ruins were great but the portion around the lake was more like a leisure walking path.

Fairly intense inclines. Great hike.

Decent hike with some fairly nice views. Some small parts of our trail had proximity to a major road, so the cars and noise was not wonderful for that portion. A walking stick made things easier for rough terrain and some inclines. We were looking for the castle ruins. We started at mile 1.5 and headed northwest. We took Red/White, to Canonball, to White. We reached a stone water tower at mile 2.3 with awesome views. Would have loved to continue, but it was getting dark. On our way back we saw a mother black bear and 2 cubs. They were at mile 1.6, not even 200 yards from the parking lot our car was at. They paid us no mind, but beware!

Got lucky and had a beautiful fall day with blue sky and a breeze to enjoy this great trail. Conditions were perfect, though it would have been fun to have the stream running. Tomorrow we will get drenched so it will be back. Fall colors are great and hiking up to the castle and top rock was a solid work out. The lake and trees are majestic this time of year. Highly recommend the trip.

Nice trail. Well marked. Some scrambling. Lots of leaves that make it slippery

Average trail at best. Far too much of the route was boring and over used (for my liking). Also not a fan of walking roads nor hearing highway traffic. Great views by the castle but that is not enough to get this one over 2 stars.

This is my favorite to do with my puppy! We go every week. Once you get to the top and you reach the water it is absolutely beautiful. There is so many dogs swimming, it is the cutest thing to see. Overall, it is a very enjoyable hike, bring plenty of water. When I went this time the waterfall had no water flowing down it but usually there is & it is beautiful.
