This area is a great for Cross Country skiing and snowshoeing. During the winter months the park service closes Dimon road for the use of snowshoeing and skiing. The loop incorporates this part of the road as well as the woods roads that connect in the area. There is usually tracks set on this loop from other skiers and snowshoers. The area stays fairly quite because everyone tends to go to High Point Ski Center. You will ski through thick Hemlock Forest, Rhododendrons, and some spruce. For a side trip you can stop by Tillmans Ravine or take a break at the Brink road shelter. When skiing this make sure you enjoy the peacefulness of the area and use up the whole day because it is well worth it. For those non skiers you can hike this during the warmer months because most of the loop is on woods roads, except for a small stretch of paved road.

Most of this trail is on paved or muddy hunting roads. I was getting bored until I headed off the main trail and up to a vista near the AT. With the detour it was around 7 miles of mostly easy flat terrain.
