Sunrise Mountain Loop is a 8.3 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Sandyston Township, New Jersey that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and camping and is accessible year-round.
Just did a short walk basically to the pavilion for photography I didn’t do the entire loop.
Parking was free today(Sep 12) We went counter clockwise around the loop. We saw only 2 other hikers during the whole hike. There were a few people at the Sunrise Mountain overlook. Some parts of the trail were very rocky and hiking boots really helped. We took about 5 hours to complete the loop including the breaks. From views perspective, there’s nothing great to see. However, we like the experience of walking in the woods. It was shady throughout and no need for a hat. There were no bugs.
Good trails, a little rocky but clear and well marked. Lots of spiders including a few that tried to hitch a ride. People need to mask up when passing on thd trail though.
Nice long morning hike. Didn’t see anyone until I made it up to the AT! Nice views - not the best but still very nice. My biggest complaint is all the spider webs! I feel like spider man, I must have 800feet of webs on me right now.
Good trail in general. I started from light blue to white(which is AT) and then brown, which is a clockwise hike. First 1/3 and last 1/3 were flat and easy, just quite rocky. After you pass a paved driving road, then it’s where elevation started. The view is nice. For an experienced hiker, I would say this trail is easy to moderate level. Also parking was supper easy on Friday. Barely see any one on the trail.
We thought this was a great hike - hiking time was just about 4 hours (9 miles). We followed the Blue Mountain Trail (light blue) --> AT --> brown trail; there were trail maps at the trail head that were additive to the All Trails map. The forest varied during the hike and in general was moderate -- there were some areas of slippery, moss covered stones, small brooks to cross. One hard section was after 4 miles on the ascent, scrambling over large boulders. The view at the top from the lookout was absolutely worth the walk. Overall, we saw less than 20 people on our hike, a few families at the Pavilion and a quartet of AT thru-hikers. We would definitely do this hike again & highly recommend!
One of the best hikes I’ve gone on recently. Was glad to get on the AT for a bit too. Views at the pavilion were gorgeous as there was almost no clouds in the sky. Definitely going to do this trail again!
Beautiful scenic outlook and very peaceful hike and not that challenging. Would totally recommend.
This trail was difficult! More like 10 miles! Steep hikes up hill! View is nice but one and done. You don’t get to the view until at least past 5 miles!
Wonderful hike. Lots of time alone with a few folks here and there. Moderate with a few inclines.
