Rutgers Gardens Via Helyar Woods Trail is a 1.7 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near New Brunswick, New Jersey that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
These trails are easy and mostly flat, but users note the markings can be difficult to follow in winter. If routing in winter, please download the offline maps to help follow the trails. These trails are closed to the public on Fridays.

October 4, 2020Super easy and decent scenery. Grabbed the last parking spot today on an early Saturday afternoon but I guess the small lots also naturally keeps the foot traffic down which we need these days. The trails are unmarked as far as I could tell and I got turned around a few times so bring this app with you and make sure you have a good charge. It’s definitely dog friendly but if you see someone walking a cat then that’s probably me. I would also consider trail running here too.

July 29, 2020The kids enjoyed the little bridges and wide trails and open path. Be careful of poison ivy, runs rampant around the trail!
July 22, 2020Pretty okay. Does the job if you need some outdoor time and are in the central Jersey area. Be aware - My dog and I are avid hikers and I found more ticks on him here than anywhere else.

May 31, 2020Closed now but did it before it closed. I got lost at one point by the river I wasn’t sure which way to go. Otherwise neat little trail right by Rutgers. There is a parking lot right by the trail start.
