This was a nice trail, well marked but kinda confusing. Very steep hills on the blue trail and since it was icy and then melted it was a bit muddy. Parking was the biggest issue because most nearby parking lots to where the GPS takes you are permit parking only for RU students. We parked in johnson park parking lot off of the river road and cedar lane light. I added a screenshot of the map under pictures where we parked on the white dot, where the light is on the red dot, and where the trail starts on the blue dot. Only way we found parking was from a biker’s review on this app so thank you!
Well marked network of trails through the preserve. Lots of joggers on the trails. I had high hopes for seeing some wildlife. I counted 2 squirrels and 8 Canada geese. It seems very well hunted.. I will give it another go in the spring.
Unexpectedly nice trail! from the street I expected it to be scrubby trees behind the housing developments in the area, but it quickly turns into a fun hike with significant elevation jumps and a nice view of the creek. very muddy if its rained at all recently. Full cell service too so if you want to listen to podcasts it won't cut out regularly.
A well-marked, but unexciting trail. Lots of mud on the Orange trail
MTB reviewer - all trails EXCEPT blue are flowy relatively easy single-track with some roots but not a lot of rocks or features. there are a few stream crossings and longer boardwalk sections especially on the wildlife trail (white diamond with black fox). blue trail is steep rooty climbs and descents and very technical, watch for protruding rebar and other hazards on blue trail and hunters Sept-Feb on the wildlife trail, wear bright colors. overall a nice spin in the woods.
Nice trails. I mixed matched them up: went all the way down to the Raritan River and back and ended up with the total distance of 4.5 miles.
