NOTE: The parking for this area is closed as of early June 2020 due to COVID-19. You must park on the road and walk a half mile to the trailhead. This is a great starting point for many hiking trails in the Delaware Water Gap Recreation area. The Rattlesnake Swamp Trail is a great family hike that offers plenty of vistas and changes in environment to keep everyone's attention.  The 700 feet of elevation gain is very manageable and the views along the ridge are well worth the energy.  The Catfish Fire Tower adds to the scenery and provides a good lunch break stop prior to descending into the Swamp trail section of the hike.

The Mohican Center is currently closed but you can park on the road and walk about a half mile to the trailhead for Rattlesnake Swamp Trail. Some muddy spots, I suspect very muddy at certain times. Interesting trail, scenery and terrain, bring a walking stick and use bug spray. Took Firetower Trail, good spot to eat lunch and climb the tower, rocky walk to the lookout, then took trail directly back to trailhead over large rocks. Great day!

Trail lives up to its name. Saw two giant rattlesnakes on our hike. Had to carry a terrified child 2 miles back out of the trail while singing songs from Frozen 2 loudly to make her less terrified (sorry to anyone who heard us!) Ridge part of trail has nice views. Swamp was impassable after all the spring rains—totally flooded and washed out. Turned our hike into an out and back

Beautiful day for a hike. We saw some cool fungi in the lower half and some toads. Will be beautiful in the Fall with the leaves turning colors.

Really nice hike on a beautiful day! Few bugs and little mud due to recent dry conditions.

instead of turning right to return via the rattlesnake swamp trail, I made this into 5.7 miles by continuing down the AT to mohican road. BEAUTIFUL views to be had by taking this route!

This review is two parts - the AT trail and the swamp trail. the AT portion of the hike is gorgeous. we started from Camp Mohican to get immediately on the AT. the views were splendid and there were plenty of spots to stop off for pictures and rest. the swamp portion was a little wetter, a little hotter, and a lot buggier. wear bug spray and you should be fine. all told an excellent hike!

I absolutely loved everything about this hike. my favorite parts were the top where rattlesnake swap trail meets the Appalachian trail. we cooked lunch and had a picnic here. the fire tower was awesome. we were able to climb to the top and dee the amazing views, unfortunately there was a wildfire. (but still pretty cool to witness from the tire). I also really enjoyed the rhododendron trail and passing the lake. little muddy, but expected at this time. took was a while to get through... but we have a slow pace. still awesome and we made it out before dark.

Always great views from Appalachian trail along the Kittatinny Mountain. You literally walk along the edge for a good part of this hike. Catfish fire tower has some great views, but the top was locked up. Rattle snake swamp trail was muddy and wet, some rock stepping is possible but can’t avoid it in a lot of places. Overall great day hike!
