Outstanding views, historic ruins Take the blue blazed McEvoy Trail from parking lot. The trail climbs to Ramapo Lake where it joins a paved park road as it skirts the lake then turns north. The trail leaves the road at a sharp bend. Stay on road for about 50 yards and take the white blazed Castle Point Trail and begin a short, steep climb. At the top are some interesting ruins and outstanding views. Continue on the trail along ridge. The trail then descends, crosses a stream and turns uphill where it joins another park road and ends at Skyline Drive. Cross Skyline and take red blazed Cannonball Trl. Then a quick right onto the yellow blazed Hoeferlin Trail. Follow trail until it reaches Skyline Dr again and catch the white blazed Todd Trail by the Camp Tamarack sign. The Todd turns west into the woods and eventually joins a gravel camp road for a short distance, then turns south and reaches another outstanding overlook. Continue on Todd, across Skyline again and back to McEvoy. Left on MacEvoy to car.

Another wonderful hike. Although the hike is pretty easy, it has one of the best views with a gorgeous lake and a ruined castle. Don't miss the castle, the climb is the only time u ll burn ur thighs, although the views from up top are spectacular too.
We started from the skyline drive parking up north, at the Hofferlin trail and came our way down to the lake, before doing a full circle and then the deserted castle and back again. We deviated a lot off the suggested trail but overall a very good experience.

This was a great hike. A beautiful lake and plenty of great views. The lily pads and flowers were awesome, we've never seen so many on one pond. The trails were well marked and well maintained although it would have been nice to have a map, we used this app to track and it worked out fine. The State Park should have trash containers in the parking area as there was quite a pile near the trail head. Overall we would come back again, it is great for beginners.

it's so nice and peaceful. not too crowded. great views when you get on the top hill. it was not challenging at all, finished in about an hour and half. I really liked the pattern of trail going up.

A great trail for someone looking for a wide variety scenery in a reasonable distance with gentle elevation. I found myself losing the trail frequently due to fallen and missing blazes along with the large number of intersecting trails in such a small region of the park. If you're considering this hike on the weekend, do it early. Parking fills up quick in the nice weather, and stubborn afternooners start to get dangerously creative with where they put their cars.

Nice park, nice views but horrible trail signage or the lack of it, to be exact... You get to the crossroad and have no idea which way to go as there are no signs so please be aware.

Compared to when I went in the summer, the path is very muddy and at times slippery so be advised. Otherwise than that, I loved it, the river is flowing with more water and the lake frozen was a sight to see.

Great hike. The castle ruins are very well-traveled, but most people come in from Skyline. Downloaded this app after hiking this trail, hoping to see the lesser trails marked.
