HikingFloodedGreat!

Our hiking group spent this morning cleaning up this trail. We cleared a lot of overgrowth, cut down some fallen trees so you can climb over them now. There is still a lot of standing water in many spots on the trail but we were able to clear a way around almost all of it. The Twp Environmental Commission received a grant to build some decking over those areas and is working on securing bids for the job.

Hiking

It was a nice little hike, but a bit disappointing. As a previous reviewer wrote some huge areas of standing water that require you to detour off trail to avoid. Also more trash than I was expecting to see. Most of the trails were fine until we got to the backside of the lake (former cranberry bogs) where there didn’t seem to be any trail. Just lots of soaked areas impossible to navigate. We had to turn back. We managed to log over 4 miles and we saw two deer cross the trail not too far from us so that was a bonus! Doubt we’ll come back though unless we hear it’s been cleaned up. Has great potential.

First to Review

This is a beautiful forest with upland and wetland trails. Trail system was once 5 star but now is in poor shape due to vehicle damage creating large areas of flooding where the trails should be. Parts are so wet they are impassible. The three cranberry bogs are separated by 3 dikes that have breaches making it difficult or impossible to get across without walking in the water. The township environmental commission is working with township officials to install gates to stop illegal entry of vehicles and dumping. Signs will be placed along property lines. A plan to fix the trail system is part of the project being spearheaded by the environmental commission. Over the next couple of years this area will be a 5 star trail system again. The future of this park is going to include guided nature hikes, bird watching tours and other public events.
