Nature tripsOff trailPrivate property

We explored small paths, waterfalls, streams and some beautiful big evergreen trees. I did this trail with some young kids (11,8 and 6). We got a bit lost and had to turn around completely. Some areas were close to private property and we passed an old dam and went through areas that were the old iron mining areas. It was very interesting. I highly recommend this path.

Some of the directions took us to non hiking trails which had predominantly residential development. Overall the actual parts of the trail were nice!

The beginning (first ~2.5 miles) was great. However, I'm assuming this is an old trail. It cannot be completed because the end of it culminates in what is now a neighborhood and a golf course. I recommend turning around at Tanner's Brook.

Running

This is a hidden gem! The trail was marked fairly well, the beginning of Patriots Path by Chester is flat, then it opens up to a hilly field with power lines. Follow the white trail to the right (sign says Chester Furnace Historical Site). As soon as you cross the field the white trail is off to the right. Here's where it gets a bit challenging, the trail becomes very narrow, with rocks and exposed tree roots. As you get closer to Furnace Road it gets very muddy, but once you cross the road it's back to a clear trail. The historical site was a fabulous find, with signs posted that show the history of the area. Then the best part, the overlook in to the valley! I will definitely do this trail again when I have more time. Bring bug spray, and a change of shoes in case you end up taking a mud bath ;)

The last mile or two of this is not really a trail, kind of just streets and peoples backyards, I turned around and went back. Will be muddy if there was rain recently, be prepared

Great trail, good variety of terrain, wide flat trails, some slight hills, fields, woods, gorgeous serene pine forest, wetlands, a river ...
