3/10/21 Beautiful day. Trail is a little swampy toward the back and there's a bridge out. Not passable the water is almost a foot deep(my dog tested that out). We turned back and followed the paved trail until we met back up with the orange.

Great place! Trail was clear and dry. There were several other groups but everyone distanced and was super polite. Highly recommend. :)

I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Started on the green trail. Red (long trail) was wiped out. Thought I could bypass it with white and pick up Red again. Nope. Backtracked to Orange and picked up red down there only to get detoured again back to green. Rained a lot yesterday. Went around Thundergust. That was my favorite part.

Bridge outMuddy

Main loop is open, but long loop is closed for good reason. Do not attempt closed trail without mud boots.

The back loop is still closed and very muddy. Might be able to get through it with muck boots, but we weren’t wearing them, so we turned back and walked along multiple other trail segments instead.

I grew up in the area and have visited Parvins many times but never hiked the trails, other than the green trail that goes around the perimeter of Parvin Lake. Over Christmas and New Year break my 4 year old son and I visited 3 times hiking different variations of the trails. The first day we started on the white trail and then connected to the green trail around the lake and up to Fisherman’s Landing. The second day we did the white trail and then connected to the red trail and followed that the entire way and connected to the yellow trail at Thundergust. The 3rd day we did the white trail into the red trail but then cut over to the black trail for a shorter hike. The red trail is marked “Temporaily closed due to storm damage” however we attempted it anyway to see how far we could get and managed to complete the whole thing. Some spots we had to maneuver around the water but we were able to keep our feet dry. So anyone that doesn’t mind a little extra excitement or mud will love the red trail. Highly recommend it!

Hiking

I did this as a warm up with my son in preparation for a section hike of the Batona Trail, Bass River to Batsto and back, about 30 miles total, we have planned for early Nov. The perimeter part of the trail was pretty basic, sandy, flat and pretty easy, but the Northern section connecting the outer perimeter was some really tough going, downed trees, washed out boardwalks and pretty overgrown, root riddled paths. The outer portions of the trail was great for setting a good pace, but that Northern section was my favorite part of the trail, great endurance builder. Will definitely do this trail trail again.

Warm up hike for the Batona Trail with my son. Hiked the whole long trail. Pretty rough going on the interior part of the trail, lots of down trees and washed out boardwalks, but it was a nice change from sandy trails. Nice workout. First time on this trail and I'll be doing it again.
