The Mullica River is a gem in the Wharton State forest. The Pine Barrens are amazing and this is some great river paddling! I've done the trip twice - once mid Aug 2017, one late Aug 2018 and the water levels made the trip very different. Both were great but the lower water levels make it hard to pass some of the sand bars and fallen logs.

We did this trip as a two day paddle, putting in at Atsion near the park office where we got our camping permit and firewood. The first trip we finished at the Bel Haven Paddle sports office where we rented a canoe. The second we opted to take out at Pleasant Mills. Although there were a lot of fun rope swings, the paddling on the wider part of the Mullica wasn't a great ending to the trip.

It took us about 5 or 6 hours to get to the Mullica River Wilderness campground. There's about 10 sites, each with a fire ring, a water pump and a few pit toilets. There are no dogs allowed at this campground (for a similar trip that is dog friendly check out the Batsto River). The next day's paddle took about 3 or 4 hours at a leisurely pace.

I highly recommend this trip. The Pine Barrens are magical, the river is incredibly fun to paddle and paddling to the remote campground combines some of the best parts of camping.
