Hike in little known park to a nice overlook and interesting ruins. Starting at the parking lot walk west, through gate and past pipeline cut. Catch the red blazed trail and take it as it follows a stream (on your left). The trail soon turns right and begins to climb a bit more steeply for a short distance, crests a hill, then descends, crossing the pipeline cut. It then turns left into the woods. Soon a yellow blazed trail joins. Turn left onto the yellow trail. It crosses a stream and passes an old, log lean-to then comes out on an abandoned road. From there it turns left (north) and begins a fairly steep climb to the summit of an unnamed hill where you will see outstanding views of the area and the NYC skyline in the distance. From here, catch the blue blazed trail and follow it as it descends the mountain and parallels Route 287. It soon joins an orange trail, then a red trail. Take it to its end at Mountain Ave. From there its a few hundred feet back to your car.

This hike is so much fun! You cross over a bunch of little water canals, a bridge, walk across a dirt road and climb up some rocks. The view at the top is beautiful and totally worth completing the whole thing.

2 stars might be more accurate because of the noise of 287 and planes and helicopters, and the surrounding suburban encroachment. That said, I gave 3 stars because I did have fun on the trails. Following the blue blaze from the TH offers a good workout up the mountain. Lunch on the lookout was nice. Do pay attention to the blazes, there are several spots that were a bit dodgy. Yellow to orange to red was the most quiet part of the hike.

Nice short hike, especially if you are local (I am) Lots of cars, but only ran into one person on the trail. Warning, if you are bringing your dog, make sure that you are UTD on tick treatment. Mine was, luckily, but still hate picking off those little buggers, even when they're dead.

Decent trails to hike. It offers some nice views of Manhattan and Northern NJ. Several loops and one-way hiking with around 8 miles or less.
