Please note that one of the parking lots for this trail is closed due to COVID 19. Hikers visiting the top of Mount Tammany can take a variety of routes. The route shown on this page follows the Red Dot Trail up a steep and rocky trail to the summit. This route then has the hiker turn around come back down the Red Dot Trail. Many hikers choose to continue past the summit onto the Blue Dot Trail eventually returning to the parking lot. You could also take the Blue Dot Trail up and back - which is easier than the Red Dot Trail.

Great hike, mixed terrain, first 1,5 mile pretty steep, but after that it gets easier.

Up the red dot trail, down the blue dot trail, that is how our group did it. The red dot trail would be too challenging to climb down - very steep. You might consider going up the blue dot trail to maybe make the climb more moderate (vs. hard).

In my opinion, the hike was quite a challenge to me, but not for some others. It took more than 1 hour and 30 minutes to hike the steep trail at my own pace. Towards the top of the mountain, you would get a great view of the Delaware River Gap. I reccomend being cautious because of loose terrain and close distance to cliffs. All in All, the whole hike was definitely worth it, especially if you consider doing photography.

Good trail, very very rocky. Lots of wildlife. I would consider it a moderate hike. As many have said, it’s best to go up the red trail and down the blue trail.

HikingGreat!

Great hike. Very crowded so get there early. Watch out for bees on the red dot trail. I had two on me, my sister got stung and two dogs were stung as well. Took the blue trail down.

Very nice hike. Not for beginners!!! This is an intense hike with lots of uphill, rough terrain and even parts where you have to climb. Lots of wildlife, saw a skink and snake on my hike, also some dear. Pack lots of water and snacks. Be prepared.
