Nice trail - a bit busy and some ice. Easy to follow some trail markers more than others.
Started at Lenape (yellow) trail, then followed red, finally blue from the nyc views to the parking lot. Some icy areas. Went on a super cold day but nice to get outdoors.
Nice and easy for beginners. Yellow and blue trails were the easiest trails to follow!
Chilly Dec. afternoon hike around the “woods” around my home that I played with my friends in, as a child 50 years ago. Wonderful views of the old quarry, local reservoir and NYC Manhattan skyline to the east from this initial part of the Watchung mountain ranges.
This would be a lovely trail if it weren’t for three things: off leash dogs running loose and doing their business everywhere, mountain bikers who vociferously insist that “no bikes allowed” doesn’t apply for them (one even went over a cliff and died and now his family is suing the county) and who play their radios while cycling, and the lack of population control on deer means that there is very little native growth and invasive plants everywhere.
Not very crowded. Lots of side trail options. Started off on the main trail (just straight ahead from parking lot) ended up making a left onto the purple/pink marked trail to be more in the woods. Overall, a nice easy walk.
Not one of my favorite trial. Too many people on the trail, the markers were not clearly visible or marked. I would rate it a 2
