Some nice views and varied terrain A very nice hike on two of the lesser used trails in this popular park. Start out blue blazed McEvoy Trail. Reaching the dam, bear left on the yellow blazed Hoeferlin Trail. Continue on the dirt road and leave the crowds behind by turning left where the Hoeferlin joins the red blazed Lookout Trail (the second left). Here the trail has both red and yellow blazes. The trail begins a short climb to a scenic rocky overlook. After the overlook, the trail descends through a stand of mt. laurel. Soon you'll pass through an area that's been heavily damaged by gypsy moths. Most of the trees here are dead, giving this section a somewhat haunting look. After passing through another stand of mt. laurel, the red and yellow trails split. Turn left on the red blazed Lookout Trail. There will be some short ascents and descents as it crosses a few small ridges. The trail then descends gently and ends near the dam. From here, retrace your steps to your car.

Greatly enjoyed our hike on these trails, two adults and one 7 year old. My pedometer read closer to 4 miles. We saw a few water snakes in the reservoir, and a mud turtle. Toads and frogs on the trails. And Pink Lady Slippers in bloom! Really enjoyed the red trail (Lookout) loop that we pretty much had to ourselves for most of the hike. The McEvoy trail in and out was pretty busy, but people were mostly respectful of space. Lots of dogs, too. Unfortunately, a bit of trash, including dog poop bags. Otherwise the trails are pretty well maintained.

First time here. Decent trail, a little muddy/ buggy in some spots, but nothing too bad. Didn’t see the ruins though :( Not sure where we missed them. The crowd thinned once we hit the red trail. Overall, a good short hike!

Good hike with some quality ups and downs. Quiet. It was tight in spots so I appreciated doing it in the winter. Would rate it as Moderate. The are many rocky areas that are slippery when wet. Decent view, much better than from Lookout. The return on the Hoeferlin trail is not as well marked as the way out on the Lookout trail. Would do this hike again.

it's a beautiful trail but unfortunately very close to the highway so there is a lot of car noise. well marked.

Great for a nice short hike. Nothing special to see, but there are a few overlooks and its a lot of fun on the rocky parts. Make sure to keep an eye on the trail markers.

You could hear the highway pretty much the whole time and the views were ok but kind of blocked by the trees. The beginning/end part by the river was really nice though, and it’s good for seeing animals. I saw a hawk catch a squirrel, which was both terrifying and super cool! I might do it again but it wasn’t my favorite hike in the area.

Once you hit overlook trail after McAvoy pay special attention. Some trail markers are difficult to see at times but the orange ribbons on the trail make up for it. You may think its a temporary blaze but its not. Follow the ground as well and you will be fine. Trail looks like it hasn't been maintained to much or traveled that much as well. Pay attention. Good hike however with decent view points over the lake but the view over I 287 you may not find unless you walk off a cliff. Again, pay attention.

Great hike. Many positives. Lots of blueberry bushes along the hike. Very rocky, lots of boulders to climb over. Not many scenic views on the red path, but it gets better on the red/yellow path. Trails are marked well, and there were plenty of other trails to try. Ample parking.

A lot of trails available for all levels, that are easily marked. Pretty lake. If you climb up the white trail you can find a really old castle from 1900. Ok for dogs.
