Getting There

This trail combines a portion of the Lawrence-Hopewell Trail (LHT) with the Laurie Chauncey Nature Trail, which is on the grounds of Educational Testing Service (ETS) but is open to the public. (ETS has long been among the local public supporters of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail.) Part of the Chauncey follows the Stony Brook in a cool, shady valley with healthy trees. A part of it near the Chauncey Conference Center is more flat, but wooded, with grassy trails that can be a bit soggy after wet weather.

This loop route can be accessed via the LHT, via Province Line Road (which is only lightly trafficked, as the bridge has been closed to vehicles for nearly 50 years), or via one of several trailheads accessible via ETS parking lots. (Please observe visitor signs and traffic rules on the corporate campus.) See recording by Jeff Johnson, dated August 9, 2019, for trailheads marked as waypoints.

Easy well marked trail. Goes thru roads and houses. But was still quite. Sunday evening. 50% thru woods which was nice.

It was a nice walk. Easy terrain. And while there aren’t many markings, the trail is well maintained so following it was easy. Hint: Don’t go to the trailhead listed. It is on a dead end of a road with no parking. Instead go to the parking lots near Wood Hall in the conference center (Waypoint 5 on the map)

I went at 7am on a Saturday and didn't see another person. It's an easy and very pleasant trail, especially the portion of the trail next to the river. Definitely would recommend for beginners.

This was a nice quiet hike on a well maintained path. A bit muddy due to recent storms, particularly near the main ETS campus. Also a tree obscures the trail near the main campus. But still a really pleasant afternoon hike that isnt very challenging.

Trail started out great but once crossing onto ETS campus it was poorly marked. The crosses the Hopewell(?) trail which takes you through a residential area.

The first half of this trail is very good. A perfect autumn hike that follows the brook for a significant portion of the hike. Part of the hike was somewhat slippery — fallen leaves on rocks. The second half of the trail is uninteresting, skirting an ETS facility and then following a portion of the LHT.
