Beginning of the trail is difficult to navigate but about halfway through the trail becomes more clear. Very nice view at the top of the lake. Overall, very nice short hike !

Thankful for the directions I got from the previous commenters...and thankful that my car was fine parked in the pull-off parking area. I think I expected a hikers lot, but nope, just the pull-off. Walk straight through the opening (previously described as a field - I guess it's a field) up the hill and turn right at a telephone pole numbered BT3044. Red blazes. Fairly spread out, so keep your eyes open for them! The view from the top is pretty lovely for a low-investment (quick) hike. Took maybe half an hour to get up to the top in 4 inch snow. Hung out up there for 20 mins, hikes down, never saw another person. The flag is tattered and should be replaced. :)

Great hike with some cool views of the mountains and lakes nearby. It’s poorly marked though but the trail isn’t too difficult to follow.

This is a decent trail with a good view at the flag/Star mark. You can easily get lost as the markers are scarce. You may accidentally pass the entrance and end up at a no trespassing entrance...if you’re there you’ve gone too far. Traveling past the flag you will find 2 old cars if you keep going I’m sure you could make it to Echo Lake but I turned around as I had become nervous and it was getting late. The cars really freaked me out until I got closer. It’s a really easy hike although very rocky. I would recommend for the view but I probably will never come back here.

Great hike and easier than expected to reach the star and flag. Trail is poorly marked but easy enough to figure out just by looking at the ground. Enter through the open field right past 23N rest stop and follow dark red spray painted blazes on telephone poles. Enter at pole number BT3044, next blaze fairly easy to find upon entering.

Pretty good trail. Nice and easy out and back can be done in about 45 minutes. After leaving the picnic area on 23, the trail goes up steeply and turns right at a telephone pole numbered BT3044. There are some red dot blazes along a trail that leads to the top of the trail. The views are are good but trash is everywhere along the top. You technically need a permit to hike this trail but I didn't see a patrol here or on other watershed trails I hiked.

The trails are pretty poorly marked and the first viewpoint is cluttered with stuff but overall it's an okay hike.

This was a rugged trail, but what a great quick work out. Almost immediately you hit an incline and keep going. Really rocky ascent, it doesn't challenge you to be very careful not to trip up and take out a knee. A bit over grown in spots so ticks did worry me. Incredible views at the top and if you follow the trail behind the mountain you can stretch this into 4-4.5 miles. I enjoyed it and recommend others give it a shot!

One of the best short hikes in New Jersey. 30 min for a hiker. It's about half a mile to the main east-facing bluff, climbing 370 feet or so. it's fairly steep but pays off quick with sweeping views of the surrounding NJ hills and the NYC skyline 29 miles to the southwest, straight in front of the mountain. Very lightly traveled, more likely to see people on ATVs than hiking. Technically requires a hiking permit from West Milford, but I have never seen a patrol anywhere within 4 towns of this trail.
