Started at the south parking lot across from the Millburn Free Library. Parking lot on a Sunday was full at 9:30 but it was easy to park across the street at the library/train station. Did a counterclockwise loop today. Trails are somewhat busy and crowded in parts but most everyone wearing masks, and no mountain bikes. Trails are not well marked but generally kept up well, with some wide bridle trails for easy walking. Unfortunately, the less busy trails are a bit overgrown, especially along the river, and there were quite a few large downed trees from the tropical storm this past week. Worth walking across the road to the Blue/White trails, trails in that area are much better marked than the main reservation trails and it's a bit quieter with a more serene setting.

Very poorly marked trail making it difficult to stay on one specific trail. Yellow is more moderate while white is easy.

Was really nice!. Had to keep a close eye out for markings but was pretty easy to stay on the yellow trail. Definitely some trash on the trails which was too bad.

Parking was a non-issue at 5:30 pm on a Friday. Pros: - The waterfall is beautiful - The streams are pretty - Easily accessible from NYC via the Millburn station on the Morris & Essex line of NJ Transit Cons: - Trail is poorly marked, hard to follow, and overgrown in parts - The trail as specified is fairly circuitous for no reason while missing a lot of nice parts of the reservation, despite covering plenty of distance/elevation There are much better ways you can enjoy South Mountain Reservation. Add in the reservoir, dam, and mill ruins in the north of the park, and follow the creek above the waterfall and you'll see a more scenic side of the park. I think starting from the lot at Bramhall Terrace (instead of Locust Grove) tends to lead to more interesting hikes.

Great hike! Finding the waterfalls was kinda hard but we just kept asking people walking the opposite direction if they had come FROM the falls and eventually we got someone haha. Some of the spots were not well marked we ended up doing more like 8 miles somehow in our attempt to do this 5.8 mile loop but it was all beautiful. Not very buggy either.

!!!! PLEASE watch out and be aware on this trail!!!!! Suspicious & creepy man was waiting in parking lot and followed 2 young girls into the trail. Girls had to run to find other people & were able to stay safe. Keep an eye out for a green VW bug with a NJ license & a tall white man with a thick mustache & beer belly. Could be wearing black hat/sunglasses. Stay aware!

Longer than description, I tracked 7 miles. Overgrown in many places, fallen trees. Also glass shards everywhere, especially around the waterfall.

This is a great trail for older kids since it is pretty long to complete the whole loop. I wouldn’t recommend for younger kids with a stroller since surfaces are not even. The waterfall is beautiful but is pretty crowded. Would definitely recommend for everyone! Parking— There are multiple trail heads on the mountain and since it’s a loop, it doesn’t matter which one you choose!

Great trail. A little crowded at the beginning but gets better as you go. Waterfall was a little hard to find on the trail but finally found it after taking many trails!

A nice easy hike with some steep sections. We had trouble finding trail markers and ended up rambling around different paths rather than going in a clean loop. No huge vista points but mostly a nice shady walk. The parking lot was full but the trail didn’t feel too busy.

07/12/2020: Part of White trail is overgrown and it’s almost impossible to walk if you have a dog. I had to come back and take River Trail all the way up until it connected to White again.
