Grand Primrose Aquaduct Loop is a 3.7 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Morristown, New Jersey that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from April until September.
Some rain yesterday washed out some of the lower trails. Navigable with boots but not exactly pleasant.
Great little nature walk with minimal ups and downs. There are a lot of trails from the trailhead so took a bit to figure which trails to stay on. Primrose (red) to Grand Loop (white) to Aqueduct (green). GPS logged 6 miles. Trails and parking were light when we arrived 10am on a Sunday but was crowded when we left at noon.
A simple, forested hike. No views and very minimal elevation. Would rate this as easy rather than moderate. The beginning and end cross a small creek several times which is nice. Have to cross several wooden planks but they’re wide and sturdy. Beginning and end are well groomed but the middle part had a very overgrown stretch. Overall a nice hike but nothing special. Plenty of parking in the morning and only passed 2 people.
A little overgrown in places, but a relaxing walk, only passed three small groups today. Lots of wildlife seen, including deer, turkeys, chipmunks, toads/frogs, tadpoles... would return.
Saw lots of birds and chipmunks. Lots of bugs. Walked along brook, saw groundwater source. Muddy. Has information from girl scouts with posts and a pamphlet you pick up at the beginning about the trek and its history as an aqueduct.
