Easy hike with outstanding views of Wanaque Reservoir Trail starts at Sloatsburg Rd. It's a pleasant, easy hike through a mixed hardood forest with ocassional stands of cedar. Two road crossings are involved (the roads aren't very busy). Upon reaching Governor Mtn, you begin a gentle ascent to the summit. From there you will see excellent views of the Wanaque Reservoir. The trail loops around and joins itself north of Governor Mtn. For shorter hikes you can also start at the crossings on Morris Avenue (knocks a mile off the hike), or Carletondale Rd (which reduces the hike to 2 miles RT).

12.15.19 - Was a lovely day to do this hike [34 degrees, winds 5 to 10]. It is not strenuous - no rock scrambles. If you start at Ringwood Manor, it is best to park by the gift shop [right after you enter the gate], and walk towards the bridge just past the old carriage house - from there, make a quick right and follow the red trail [very short distance] to Sloatsburg Road. Cross the road, and the entrance is there. - Now, this is an alternate entrance [and only entrance from Ringwood Manor for now] because the usual bridge entrance from the Manor grounds after Parking Lot B is currently closed. After crossing Sloatsburg Road, and enter the red blazed trail, go until you see the white - take the white to the yellow trail all the way. Top of the Mountain is on the yellow trail. Warnings: It feels more like 8 miles from the Manor. All Trails says its is six. We [healthy adults] started at 11 am and got out where we started at just before sunset at 4.30pm. There is one water crossing that does not have a large enough log or rock across it. So, it was a bit hairy getting across and we had good hiking poles. Last week - lots of melting snow, and rain yesterday may have caused the water. So, if you go on a dry stretch, it may not be an event for you. At the top of the mountain, there is a lovely rocky area to sit and eat and watch the water. if you opt to loop instead of 'in and out' at that point, the descent is steep for a little bit but not for long. Also, there seemed to be several interconnecting trails and those were not blazed or marked [appears to be trails from Skyland Manor which is also in Ringwood State Park]. If you do not plan your route and then stick to it, you can easily lose time going in circles. Next time, I do this trail, I will start Carletondale[sp] road to enjoy the view - today, i needed exercise so opted for the longer trip. Saw one woodpecker. no bears. One dog named Cody tried to steal my lunch. but he was cute. Recordings: First time i tried to do a recording. It is not fully accurate. It does not show the full 6 to 8 miles.we walked. Then, I forgot to turn it off when I got back to Parking lot A so it followed my drive which i then had to edit. Just be aware.

Nice hike. Beautiful views of the reservoir at the top, but not much scenery otherwise.

4.7.19. We started this hike from where the Cooper Union trail (yellow blazes) bisects Morris Road. There isn't much to this mediocre hike except for the view over Wanaque Reservoir from the top. I would recommend starting from Carltondale Road and climb to the loop and the view — that'll save you 3 miles of rather tedious, muddy, walking. My stats as a guide to what we did: Distance: 5.3 miles Elevation Gain: 650 feet Moving Time: 2:10:43

It was 5.8 miles starting on Morris Rd, not from Trail head. Nice easy hike with beautiful view of the Wanaque Reservoir. Clearly marked with yellow markers.

Its an easy 2.3 mile loop from starting at Carletondale Rd. Stay on yellow and it easily loops with only one moderate climb.

The trail head is a little difficult you find but once you're on it, it's yellow the whole time. It was clearly marked and the summit has a beautiful view of the Wanaque Reservoir. It was a little longer than listed also. My map my hike put it closer to 8 miles.
