Four Birds Trail to Hibernia Brook Trail Loop is a 7.4 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Rockaway Township, New Jersey that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and bird watching and is accessible year-round.
Offline map is recommended. Some users have reported that the trails are not marked well.
it was a nice hike but I had to cut it early today because the weather wasn't on my side. on a clear day I think this hike would be perfect
Pretty badly marked, especially at the Splitrock dam area and towards the end / beginning of the Four Birds trail. Alltrails map is just plain wrong in some areas as well. Do this trail if you enjoy off-trail hiking.
Great day on the trails. Overcast, light drizzle, foggy, and gloomy, but that means that there were less people out on the trails. Did the whole loop (9+miles) starting at Hibernia and topping out at the witch oven and the dam. Lost the trail a few times and not very well marked in places, but the all trails app definitely was a big help. Lots to see – old minds, the reservoir, abandoned buildings made for an interesting hike!
don't do it. garbage everywhere, and a mess of unmarked trails. and half of them go into people's backyards.
The trail can be a little confusing in the beginning, but once you get on track it's a wonderful little adventure. The teenagers I went with even said " I guess that was kinda fun". No higher praise has ever been given. Lots of ticks. Lots of wildlife. Lots of abandoned old stuff like mine shafts and a old Dodge in the middle of the forest. The graveyard is spooky. Good times.
Took just over 4hr. Parts of trail tricky to find (the dark blue over the brook had no bridge, white trail joins woods rd temporarily near the cemetery which is not marked on this route). Did not cross stream near dam, instead walked to road from furnace, over dam, found yellow. Not a difficult hike, interesting mine remnants, not too busy.
The Hawkwatch was cool, but other than that the hike was just decent. The head of the trail had so much broken glass and we saw a bit of litter throughout. Also, ticks! We brought our dog (Frenchie) and had to pick at least 12 off of him at the end of the hike (we didn’t even go off the path).
