We took the trail counterclockwise which is a straight ascent to the ridge line for about .4 miles. Once across the ridge line, and down via slight switchbacks, the trail back to the parking lot is a slight uphill through a meadow. So choose your direction depending on your preference of when to take the steep section. We did have a view at the top through the falling leaves. Very pretty.
The first .4 is a nice, steep climb to get your blood pumping. The top is a rock scrambly section that has you winding around boulders. I extended the hike onto the red trail for a bit, but if you follow the course it's a straightforward descent. The final leg takes you into the sunlight. Lots of wildflowers, but you have to check for ticks and may want to wear a hat. Overall a nice workout for a short trail and good variety. Don't expect to see the reservoir from the top, though, unless you wait until the leaves fall.
Good stiff climb for first .5 mile then steep downhill next .5 mile. Trail is in the woods most of the time.
Starts off quite steep, but then beautiful loop ( and whole variety of other trail options ). Woods are nice to walk through and if you are prepared to hike over rocks you can get right to the water of round valley reservoir
Great and moderate difficult....we usually hike with family and friends...this time around we were 6 families with kids from 4 years to 10 years...everyone did great....took the white trial and went to the summit and followed the path to the lake....you can enter the water area only from the camp grounds....kids had a lot of fun there...while returning back from the summit to the parking lot we took the blue and yellow trial that merge together. Kids and adults had lots of fun.
