Columbia Trail: High Bridge to Bartley is a 15 mile heavily trafficked point-to-point trail located near High Bridge, New Jersey that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This trail parallels the South Branch Raritan River along an old rail bed. The trail is named for the Columbia Gas Company which built the pipeline underneath the entire length of the trail. Short portions of this route are along the roadway shared with motor vehicles. Wearing a helmet, bright clothing, and using lights or flags is always recommended for personal safety. Accessibility: There are at least 2 designated accessible spaces in the paved parking lot off of Main Street in High Bridge at the southwest end of the trail. Both of them are van-accessible with striped access aisles. The trail surface is pavement, crushed gravel, or bridge (with railings), and typically at least 6 feet wide. The estimated grade is mostly gentle (5% or less) except for moderately steep (5-8%) uphill sections at about 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 miles when going northbound. Trail goers/hikers using wheelchairs/mobility equipment or strollers may need assistance in the moderately steep sections or to avoid them for safety. All-terrain tires or motorized equipment may be needed for the unpaved sections. There are benches along the route for resting.
Nice wide trail along a fast moving stream. Went off trail to head down to Ken Lockwood Gorge. Many fly rod anglers. Strolled the grounds of Solitude House. Nice hike.
beautiful trail running along a stream. Saw a couple of Otters playing. The only problem with the Trail is the massive amount of Dog and Horse poop no one seemed to care about cleaning up after their pet. I am talking every 3 steps is a pile. whoever left it should be fined. It says on signs there are Cameras. Very sad
Well maintained. Nice and smooth trail. Love the scenery. Horses also share the trail which is a wonderful sight to see.
Not much to say except... WONDERFUL!!! Flat trail, beautiful, with lots of foot and bike traffic so you never feel alone. Even though many of the trees are bare, those trees that still had leaves were colorful and pretty. P ath borders a river with a waterfall (about half a mile in). There appeared to be two other trails, I'm planning to check those out in the near future. I wish I had visited this end of the trail sooner, the entire Columbia Path trail is well maintained and a glorious place to spend some time!
first time on this trail and we love it! will definitely come back for more.
