Breathtakingly beautiful trail with sugar-sand paths that start and end in the 1700s ghost town of Batsto Village. The history is great but nature beats it. We highly recommend this hike.

This was a okay hike - we only did the white trail (about 4 miles, along the River then in the brush on the way back). It was often overgrown and marked for most areas. The views were not that great as they were grown in, but it was peaceful and relaxing! There are many trails, so this is only for the one that we took. Id love to go back and try others on a longer day!

Always a favorite! Quick hike through a regenerating post-fire forest, cedar bog, and the lake. I usually go early to avoid running into too many people. The dog loves it too. The white trail is getting overgrown in parts, so beware the ticks and chiggers.

Nice secluded walk. Only saw 4 people along the white trail. The lake views aren’t anything to write home about though.

Well-marked trail and not crowded at all on a Thursday afternoon. There’s also a nice gift shop and bathrooms inside the visitor center.

Good place to get out to the woods for a short day hike. It is what you would expect for the Pine Barrens. Relatively flat and no incredible views although the lake is nice. It is quiet and wasn't crowded when I went during the colder months. Trails are well marked.

We went trail walking in the stroller with our 3 month old. He loved it and fell asleep for at least half of the 4 mi. Batso Lake Trail. People had their dogs and it did not seem to bother anyone. The staff in the main office where the bathrooms are were very nice. Its a beautiful place to explore the NJ pine barrens anytime of year (especially during foliage time). Even in mid November we found ticks on us :O

The trail is really well marked for this loop. Terrain is easy—mostly packed sand. Views from the river side part of the hike were nice. Bugs were not terrible. Saw a few ticks. Chris who works in the museum/gift shop was extremely nice, enthusiastic, and SUPER helpful. Would highly recommend!

I have walked this trail many times with groups and I enjoy it very much. It is a great introduction to hiking. The trail does contain some roots and ground that is not level, so do be careful if this is one of your first times venturing onto natural, unpaved or graded hiking trails.

The Batsto Lake White Trail (White blaze/marker) is about 4 miles start to finish. The trail is shared with the Batsto Lake Blue Trail (Blue blaze/marker) and the Batona Trail (Pink blaze/marker) for parts of its length. I've enjoyed the use of this path through the woods for trail running. Easy on the legs yet a good workout.

This is the main State P & F site for both History and Hiking. Large visitors' center, huge 19th c. summer home of the Wharton family and a wide variety of trails to explore. I've been going there since the late 1940's and have yet to explore all the trails.
