Batsto Lake Trail is a 4 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Washington Township, New Jersey that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Very cool, easy and clean trail. My husband and I always pick up trash while one hikes and there wasn't much at all. Some nice spots to sit by the lake, and although it's not very long you pass through different area types. Some of the usual crazy sea of thorns, some previously burned areas with new growth and a more open area with little shrubbery and cool almost wavy land. Easy trail to follow and well marked.
I had just done Harrisville Lake and decided I needed more nature. Stopped at Batsto on the way home. I wanted to do Tom's Pond, but it was being worked on. It looked like they were building a new foot bridge at the beginning. Not wanting to do a long trail, I opted for the shorter blue version of the Batsto Lake Loop. It's a nice little trail and perfect for anyone wanting to experience the historic town and get in the woods without spending a whole lot of time. Oddly enough, I have been on The Batona twice today. At mile marker 8 and 19.
Really good trail, easy to follow, but too many people to be happy.
Easy and flat. Controlled burned forest looks interesting. About 1/2-1 mile of lake then you veer off. Dog friendly. Not crowded in the cold weather on a March Saturday. (I closed the app for a bit so the distance 3.7 miles is not accurate on this post but my Apple Watch tracked 4.5 miles)
this hike was definitely easy but a very nice hike, even in winter. the scenery was great especially seeing all the new growth coming out on the burnt trees. finishing this hike at the batsto village was a great ending. I love historical sites so this was a nice surprise to see how large this site was as well as how well the buildings are preserved. definitely recommend!
nice trail through the woods. only about 1/2 mile is along the lake
Heavy trafficked but worth it! Blue trail is 2 miles long loop on the Batsto Lake. We finished the hike checking the village out! Well maintained and easy to navigate.
Pretty cool. Went off trail at first to see the fire tower. Be sure to check out the historic village.
