Great trail with a lot to see. Be prepared to do a lot of back tracking if you do the bog portion of it.

For the Pinebarrens Fans A great little romp through every habitat of the NJ Pinelands — wetlands, cedar bog, upland and lowland pine forest, scrub — it’s all there. Haven’t seen any people, and the trails are well-marked. Parts of the trail between the reservoir and the neighboring wetland are ankle-deep, easy to wade with shoes on or off in the summer. Several lovely wetlands in the northeast part of the loop. Northeast jag looks skippable but isn’t — if instead of taking the white trail detour you attempt to take the blue trail north of the reservoir, there is a deep water-filled hollow — waders needed. In any case, the white trail is a delight; saw red-winged blackbirds, a couple of bald eagles, a baby stinkpot turtle and several garter snakes. Lots of wildflowers and wild life, the dog loved it too.

Very nice hike. I started off south on the White Trail from the lot off 563 but turned around about 1/2 mile in. This was due to a low area of about 6 inches of water, no boots, and a lab that actually doesn't like getting wet. Ended up taking the Yellow Trail loop north from the lot, crossing 563, and cutting back to the lot using the Blue Connector. Nice scenery along the way. Only issue was some confusion where the trail turns right to parallel the river. There were no trail markers in that area so I ended up dead ending at the river not realizing I should have turned. Overall it was well marked and well maintained. We would definitely come back.

Great terrain for our first outing, even though we were locked in. LOL

Network of trails that can be combined in different ways - full map at http://www.njconservation.org/images/2014fpp_trails8x11color.jpg. Trails are decently marked but need to pay attention. Would also be good for trail running.
