Great trail although I would not rate it as hard. A few little climbs. Very well marked.

this trail is no joke it's an awesome walk but one should be ready to do some climbing. I probably got off a little easy as I went south bound, which is more down hill than up. The views are worth it, amazing. At a meandering pace I made it from 17A to Waywayanda shelter in 5.5 hours with a nice break for lunch and a few casual conversations with section hikers.

Segment between NJ/NY border and Hwy 17A would be the best part of this route. Lots of hiking on exposed rock with couple views mixed throughout on various rocky outcrops. There are a few areas that involve some light rock scrambling, but mostly is just walking on them. A rebar ladder is built into one of the rock scramble spots which leads to nice view of the western side. If it is a dry season like it was this fall, there isn't really anywhere to fill up on water on the NY side (all dried up).

Some good hills and a lot of rocks. Watch your step! Trail is well marked for white blazers.

This section of the Appalachian Trail always surprises people. It is rugged terrain overlooking Greenwood Lake, which is beautiful. I'd like to correct something from the description. It says, "...and primarily used for hiking." "primarily" is wrong. It is only used for hiking. --Peter Kohlberger, Appalachian Trail Overseer
