Oustanding little hike. Trail is very well maintained, in great shape and has some very pretty views. That said, Alltrails definitely has the wrong location for the trailhead and for much of the location. But its only off by a couple hundred feet and its so well marked its easy to find.

Trail parking lot is about 1/4 mile before AllTrails states. Great hike, a bit overgrown but views are worth it.

We just did the North Peak loop. It was a beautiful day. Not a difficult hike at all, but it does have an uphill grade. It’s one we will return to.

Weather conditions were mostly cloudy, but the sun broke through often enough to make the views worth the trip! Quite a few patches of mud across the entirety of the trail, but for the most part I was able to walk around them. Trail map on this site is outdated/inaccurate. Will upload picture of actual map. This being our first time hiking this trail, we checked out both peaks. There were some spots that were more of an incline than we bargained for. North Peak was first and the view was pretty stunning. Circled around the loop and then went back to South Peak. View was 10+ times better than North and the hike to it was much shorter(a bit steeper though). In my honest opinion, the only real need to take the North Peak is to extend your time on the trail/maybe give yourself more of a challenge. You can see everything North Peak has to offer and then some from South Peak, and there's a picnic table to catch your breath/replenish yourself/sign the little visitor log. Overall a really nice hike and well worth the difficulties! Keep your eyes out for miniature waterfalls, chipmunks and birds as well as signs of bigger animals!

Nice wide trials. Some mud but pretty easy to walk around it. South loop had a nicer view, but both were fun!

Hiking

05/02/2020 - Hiked on a sunny Saturday with upper 50 degree weather, so there was no snow or ice left. Slightly muddy in a few areas because it just rained, but not bad. Path is very large, so during this coronavirus time, it was easy to keep your distance from people. Hardly anyone out there on a beautiful day. It is straight uphill to get to either peak, but still easy. We only did South Peak because we were short on time. View was really nice & there’s a picnic table at the top. Well maintained & marked. Would do trail again for an easy hike with a nice view.

We only did south peak since we were trying to beat the incoming snow. Decent view, took us about 25 minutes up to south beak no stops. It had its inclines but many leveled areas to catch your breath. Nice easy quick hike

It was just as expected. There were dry trails with sections of ice, snow and muddy watery areas. Waterproof boots helpful for Spring conditions. Loved that it was all walking paths (easy on the knees), with inclines to get your heart going. Nice views at both hilltops but the Southern one is the better one plus picnic table for snacks/lunches. Did all of the blue, green and red trails and it took 2hrs at a leisurely pace. Awesome trail! Good length for a nice morning hike. Took about an hour. There’s also a south peak that you can do for a shorter trail or in addition to the loop. Stunning views!!

Trail is mostly on old logging roads so there is not the feel of being in the woods, That said there are some great views of Squam Lake and beyond. Snow and micro spikes.

This is a nice little trail. The best views are from the south peak. It got my husband back out on the trail and that makes me a happy hiker. GO! Enjoy!

Snowshoeing

Whitten Woods is a great, easy winter hike in Ashland. The trail system markers have been significantly improved since prior trip reports - VERY easy to see and frequent plastic blue diamond markers mark the trail up and over the north peak and follow the loop around the back, making it viuutally impossible to get lost.. One very short moderate steep section prior to the North peak view point looking out over LIttle Squam Lake, otherwise pretty easy and wide trail most of the way. I and everyone I met that day were using snowshoes due to recent snow and light traffic on this trail, particularly the backsid. The trail map on AllTrails is out of date....as there is now a well-marked loop that runs up the northpeak, down the back and returns you to a junction just before you reach the branch to the south peak on the way back to the parking lot.

Lots of ticks. Did this at the beginning of the season. Over all was a great hick but we lost the trail about half way and ended up with over 20+ ticks on us :(

The trail map posted was different from the All Trails map so I was a little confused on that point. Was an ok hike. More uphill than I had though. Overgrown fields. Lots of wooded areas. A couple views.

Overall was a decent hike. I got lost at some points, specifically behind the mountain. Some markers could be more pronounced. Some areas of the trail were very grown in.

11/30/18 The trailhead and parking lot is on the left hand side on highland street 0.1 from where the app directions tell you it is on the right. The trail was well marked. I used micro spikes. You may want them if you do the north peak loop. The views - incredible on south peak. There is a lookout:/clearing on the way to north peak, but best views are south peak.
