Reservations are recommended since there’s a maximum number of people allowed per day. Very nice hike, steep at times but nothing too crazy. There are some “rock climbing” portions. Very windy at the top.

Hiked in a clockwise direction (white dot to pumpelly to cascade link) in March. A good option if you want to avoid crowds; we only saw one other couple on the way down. There were a lot of people on white cross and we wanted to do a loop instead of coming back down white dot, so we opted for the cascade link way down. Terrain wise, I think I prefer white dot/white cross but not a bad trail. It is more shaded though so there was more snow melt/streams of water on cascade link, which made for a muddier experience.

Great trail, very scenic. Not for the casual hiker. Took about 4 hours in total up and down, coming down via the white cross trail. Trail markings on the cascade trail on some points were worn or not in obvious spots, it requires attention to not wander in the wrong direction at a few points.

A moderate hike. not hard. Scramble up Spellman was rather challenging, but paid off with some amazing views. This route provided great solitude, even for a weekend in the summer. I started early (before 7) and didn't see a person until nearing the summit on Pumpelly. Summit itself had 3 people at 8:35. Descent down either White Dot or Cross will be very crowded... including people smoking while hiking!

It's a day hike trail. Make sure that you bring bug spray though because for the first half of the trail, there are a lot of mosquitos

A little muddy and very buggy at the bottom - bring good shoes and plenty of big spray! Gorgeous and windy / cold as always at the summit.

Loved everything about this trail! It wasn’t as busy as white dot, was challenging in part, and was beautiful. My new favorite way to get to the summit.

Zipped up this one with a friend, back in the car after three hours or so. View was a bit foggy at the top but we had a great time and it proved to be a bit of a challenge, which we were looking for. Would not recommend if you have bad knees, could be tough.

So I would say that this is hands down the hardest trail going up Mt. Monadnock. Getting there you will need to hike the Birchcroft trail which is pretty standard nothing too difficult. Be aware that there’s potential to get lost when you reach the crossroads for the Cascade link. You will want to continue to go up, don’t take a left down the Cascade link. When you travel up for a hundred yards there will be another set of crossroads you will want to take a right. You will travel about 0.2 miles till you reach the Spellman trail then take a left. First impression is that this trail is quite daunting. But once you get in the rhythm of the trail it’s actually quite fun. This is a great trail for someone first time rock scrambling. It’s steep but not really that difficult. So if you like a challenge this is the trail for you. Do not descend this trail take the red dot trail instead, much easier.

A challenge in a few spots due to my fear of heights on big rock faces but worth the hike. Beautiful!

Vastly underrated trail ascending Monadnock and one that offers a rewarding mix of trail hike, rock scramble and breathtaking views. Very manageable in terms of time but there are stretches of fairly rigorous climbing followed by more moderate terrain. The final twenty minutes of almost total rock face ascension is the payoff of the entire route and one that offers a panorama of great vistas to behold. Never gets old!

Short but sweet. Very steep with a lot of good climbing and scrambling. Taking the Cascade Link to Spellman and then Pumpelly up to the summit is a nice way to go that bypasses a lot of the crowds.
