HikingGreat!

I had a bicycle accident in July and injured my shoulder and since my hiking backpack weighs 15+ lbs I was looking for a more moderate NH hike. This fit the bill! The Piper Trail starts as a wide, soft trail with a slight incline. At the intersection, stay to the left onto Weetamoo Trail. There is a pretty stream crossing. Watch for a yellow rectangle on a tree on the other side so you know you are crossing in the right spot. For the next mile, the trail is more steep. After that it increases in steepness again and remains at that incline for the majority of Weetamoo Trail. It is a shady trail with dappling sun and feels open. When you arrive at the end of Weetamoo trail take a left onto Hammond Trail. About 1/5 mile on Hammond Trail you will arrive at a widening of the trail with three large boulders. From the trail, facing the boulders you want to search around on the other side of the boulders for a narrow trail. It isn't on All Trails so don't bother looking for it. Follow this trail to the end and you won't be disappointed. It ends at a large, open, ledge area with a full 180 degree vista. We had the spot to ourselves for the entire time we were there. We had a full view of the top of Mount Chocorua. We saw only 4 people the entire hike! In total it was 5.6 miles with an combined elevation gain of ~1400'. There were NO bugs and NO mud and NO scrambles. Safe to do alone.

HikingGreat!

Someone had posted pictures here of mt. Chuchura so that’s what we thought we were going to. The trail ends at a junction with no view. We ended up looking at our maps and bushwhacked until we found the top of bald mountain. Was so pissed.

It was a lovely trail but this is not accurate. I assumed there would be a view at the junction, but nothing at all. We ran into another group of hikers who also thought the pictures on here were from this trail and they were disappointed. I didn’t really want to push myself as I had only slept an hour or so the night before, but since there was nothing at the top, we decided to trudge on to the peak of Chocorua. We were NOT prepared for it! Ran out of water at the top and we’re in terrible pain now from such a long grueling hike. That being said, the views were totally worth it. 360 and incredible. The way down hurt but was pretty (we took Piper but I’m sure any way would be tough). Im glad we did it, but pretty disappointed in this misleading listing on the app. I’ve been using AllTrails for years and have never run into that before.

I would definitely recommend a good pair of hiking boots for this one! A lot of roots and rocks, rolled my ankle a few times coming back down the piper Hammond loop and weetamoo trail. But overall an awesome hike once you get up to the chocorua summit! Took me about 2.5 hours from the piper trail to chocorua summit then 2.5 on the way down. I would suggest you start on the piper trail first. Good views about half way up heading to chocorua.

A little more physically challenging than I had expected. Great hike with amazing views. We took the piper trail up and then Hammond down back to piper. Great little river on the way back down. Really not buggy at all.
