Phoebes Nable Mountain Trail Loop is a 2 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Union, New Hampshire that features a great forest setting and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is best used from April until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Hiked on 1/09/21. Went counterclockwise from parking lot. Trail was pretty easy to follow. Thought I took a wrong turn when I got to the area where the campers are but map showed I was heading in the right direction. Top of Phoebes Nable Mt has a decent overlook of Acton (Foxes Ridge), Lebanon, and was able to see the tower lights at the top of Mt. Hope in Sanford. Used spikes on the way down.
Trail is well marked, snow covered today. Spots of ice but still doable in hiking boots. We had the trail to ourselves! Saw bunny tracks which was a bonus for my daughter.
I just missed peak leaf season, but the views were still spectacular, particularly from the field on the way down back to the farm site.
Great views from Phoebe’s Nable and enjoyed the apples on the Burrowa Farm trees.
Pretty short so we hiked it twice. The shorter steeper route to the top is more interesting and quicker than heading up the logging trail. The Maps direction to this location was a bit confusing and at one point it wanted us to go left but the sign pointed straight so we followed the sign
I wouldn’t call this a moderate, it’s a pretty easy trail depending which direction you take the loop. If you’re looking for more of a workout, take the short way up as it’s the steepest. The view was absolutely breathtaking and unexpected for such a short hike. Pictures don’t do it justice. Great easy trail for kiddos and pups. There was a part that was a little weird when you stumble upon a line across the trail which is clearly part of the trail with a sign saying “residents only” and a clearing a little further up filled with a couple trailer homes in the middle of the woods. We pressed on anyways and the trail was fine.
Perfect day for a hike and no one else on the trail! We started with the 1/2 mile steeper section (behind you when looking at the Moose Mountain Reservation map) and descended on Burrows Farm Trail. The first part was a good workout for us (being in our mid-60’s) but well worth it with a very nice view. As others have said, this route provides a nice diversity and the pine woods on the descent was extremely peaceful and quiet. We appreciated the historical aspect as well. The trail markings were thankfully very adequate.
We wondered off the trail and took side trails. Beautiful area but do not follow us
Absolutely wonderful combination of woods and fields to keep the scenery changing constantly. The view from Phoebe Nable mountain was beautiful. Very quiet, isolated hike; I didn’t see any other hikers on the trail, despite seeing cars in the parking lot. You gain seriously elevation within the first half of the trail, but the rest is smooth sailing.
Fun short mountain hike. A little overgrown in parts of the grassy field. Not too busy and some great views.
it was incredibly buggy. Like so many bugs that you have to continuously swat at your head. A few times, I thought they were going to swarm into a bug monster and eat me. The hike was nice and the view gorgeous tho, so 2 stars.
can confirm trails could use better blazes, however there is a nice view from the top. lots of cut trails that are not marked and unmaintained old roads as well. to do again, I recommend starting with the trail off the bottom of the parking as you come in and circling back by the less maintained roads and field. lots and lots of ticks. nesting birds in the fields. parking fits not more than 10 cars or so.
A little buggy but not too bad. Going up was steep and not well maintained but not too long and worth the view. The rest of the loop was somewhat confusing but manageable with the app. Goes through a pretty wildflower field with some old picturesque graveyards. Only saw one other group of people the whole time.
Beautiful hike and beautiful view. We took the trail from the parking area. The ascent was fairly steep and if you aren’t a regular hiker, suggest you go in from the Burrows Farm trail for a more gradual climb. Many black flies, we used nets to stay sane. Also check for ticks because we had quite a few. Coming from the summit we came down through Burrows Farm Site - neat if you like seeing old cellar holes. This one also had the remains of an old car and an old family cemetery. Not much parking at the trailhead and part of the road coming in was dirt.
2,400 acres and multiple trails to get to at Moose Mountains Reserve! Highlighly recommend!
