Getting There

This boardwalk trail, which is fully wheelchair accessible, begins at the southeast corner of the parking lot. After passing through a beautiful forested area, the trail continues to a wildlife observation blind at the edge of Upper Peverly Pond. From there, the trail loops back to the parking lot after meandering by several (seasonally wet) vernal pools.

From Route 16 aka Spaulding Turnpike in Portsmouth get off at the Pease AFB exit. Enter the old air base and bear right to reach to reach Arboretum Drive following the brown signs to the Great Bay National Refuge. It is about 3 miles or so from the entrance.

A great, well-maintained boardwalk trail. At the water, we saw 15+ turtles sunning themselves :) Lots of nature to enjoy!

Very short trail, but it's nice knowing there won't be any mud of climbing during your hike. I've never seen a trail with wooden bridges lining the whole path, pretty neat.

Wasn’t expecting a built wood trail but helps to preserve the refuge. Pretty pond with mallards and geese in the pond.

I love the boardwalk loop! It’s quiet and peaceful. You can hear bird song and get a view of Peverly Pond.

Easy stroll across from the 1.9 mile GBWR trail; same parking lot. The entire trail is on a foot bridge which is neat.

We took out 18 month old here and let him walk the whole path. Really fun and easy for kids. The raised path with side rails makes it great for even the littlest children. you could take a stroller on it as well.

Very cute trail. Nice for a short walk. Went on a very cold winter day, can't wait to go back in the spring/summer. I liked the fact that it was very easy, and had an even wooden walkway/ramp the entire route. It seemed handicap accessible. Also probably very good for family outings if you have a child in a carriage.

Nice walk. Handicap accessible on a nice new board walk. About mid point is a nice duck blind. Many birds and muskrats in the pond so keep your eyes open !
