Nubanusit Lake is a 7.3 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Nelson, New Hampshire that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for birding, canoeing, and whitewater kayaking and is best used from April until October.
I had some initial reservations about kayaking here based on the number of powerboat carriers parked alongside the road to the access area but they were unwarranted. My friend and I had a delightful paddle to the northern point of the lake where one can then make the easy portage (50 yards..... with wooden stairs no less!!) into Spoonwood Pond. This paddle only body of water is quite lovely and we took full advantage of the beautiful day to explore the entire shoreline. My only regret is that we didn't pack a lunch so that we could have stayed longer. Next time for sure.....and there will definitely be a next time!
