Complete 3 peaks of the Northeast 111 in a tough & beautiful day-hike loop: Cannon Mountain 4,100' North Kinsman Mountain 4,293' South Kinsman Mountain 4,358' Start from the trailhead and immediately up the HI-Cannon Trail (featured as a 'Terrifying 25' Club elective trail) until reaching Cannon Mountain tower. Continue back, this time taking the Kinsman Ridge Trail to a 4 corners junction, continuing 'right' on KRT to North Kinsman Mountain. (One large rock outcrop on 'left' for great views). Continue on an out & back mission to South Kinsman Mountain, returning past N. Kinsman and four corners junction. This time, taking the Fishin' Jimmy Trail to Lonesome Lake Trail back to trailhead. A great loop for any peak-baggers trying to tackle a strenuous day of three. Enjoy!

An ambitious loop with lots of elevation gain, I would recommend starting with Cannon Mountain since that’s the steepest part of this loop. Cannon has an observation tower with great views into Franconia Notch and on to the peaks you are about to tackle. The trail to Northeast Cannonball drops very steeply and rises again to the summit, there’s no cairn or sign, just a small clearing that’s hard to miss. The trail from there traverses a mossy forest with some swampy sections. North Kinsmen is wooded but has an excellent vista, South Kinsmen is an amazing Peak with panoramic views. There are two cairns, one of which may confuse hikers at the false summit of South Kinsmen, remember to continue on to the larger cairn which is about 4.5 feet tall in an open clearing. The views are unmatched on this high peak. Fishin Jimmy is somewhat steep with lots of wooden steps nailed to the slab rock. Kinsmen Pond is very pretty and Lonesome Lake is spectacular, with great views of Franconia Ridge. Be sure to grab some pastries at the AMC hut before completing the last mile of trail.

Moderate hike. Cool scrambling at some points due to the way the rocks formed on the trail. Not a fan of the touristy part on the summit, but there is a great viewpoint about 15-20 Min. From the summit.
