Used Nancy Pond Trail to return from camp at bottom of Desolation Trail. Summited Carrigain on Day#1 then descended via Desolation to camp in Stilwater area. Hiked out on Day#2 up notch trail to Norcross Pond (epic beauty!). Continued on Nancy Pond Trail to the cascades (epic again!) checking out the upper portion and lower section. This trail is wonderful and just keeps on giving! This option is a much better way to take in Carrigain, in my opinion, then just peak bagging (just watch out for Brutus the bear!).

I had a great morning on this trail. It was wide and open most of the way to the cascades. The cascades were lovely, despite our very dry fall. I went along to the pond and loved the steep scramble and then the gradual walk to the pond. Great trail when you are in the mood for something different then peak bagging. I dreamed of seeing a moose by the pond (saw lots of moose prints)! We will be back. Great trail.

This trail had a washout a while back and the new trail is not yet completely broken in, making it very "goaty" and slow going, there are few places where you can stretch your legs and pick up the tempo past the first stretch.

However, the vista into the wilderness is very rewarding and the pond is beautiful. There is also a pool with a waterfall which is a perfect rest spot, or swimming hole for the brave.
