Lots of bugs and mud at the beginning but the view at the summit is worth it

BUGS ARE OUT IN FULL FORCE! ha! I love this mountain and have done it before. The beginning is nice BUT the deeper you get the harder it is to follow the markers. One of them detours and isn’t clearly marked, I ended up in a field in a dirt road at one point and the trail disappeared. I was lucky enough to find someone to give me a ride to a different trail head to be able to reach the summit instead of having to back track the way I came. I ended up doing 9miles total wirh 3,000 elevation gain. I’ve been told I’m not the only person this has happened to!

The views from the top are spectacular! The conditions made for some challenging scrambles towards the top through snow, ice and water. We were able to do the hike without spikes but did have hiking shoes and poles About 2 miles in - there was a moose carcass in the middle of the trail (ugh) Nice trail (No bugs yet!)

Hiked on April 25th. Overall a great hike! Had a group of 5, some beginners some a little more experienced, was definitely more difficult for the beginners especially with snow but was doable! Snowy after about 3 miles up. Definitely easier with microspikes! Some icy steep spots going up to the top of the first peak, two tricky parts going from there over to Cardigan and a couple more heading down Clark from the top of Cardigan. View from the first peak walking over to Cardigan was incredible! Overall a great hike!

Overall it was a fun hike. There are two great spots at the top to stop and see everything although the majority of it is wooded. Very easy to follow the signs. I would recommend it and do it again.
